Day 3 part 2: Inversnaid to Inverarnan

3 days down and 4 to go

Miles hiked so far: 42.34

Miles of the trail hiked so far: 41.5

Total elevation climbed so far: 5507 feet

Today we hiked 14.27 miles in total – starting at about 7.15 am and arriving just over 7 hours later. That was with our long coffee break half way.

The second half of our hike today continued along the East side of Loch Lomond but was more of a hiking path like we are used to in the Adirondacks – although with a lot more up and down, followed by more up and down, and less straight up. There was a lot more scrambling over rocks and tree roots and stepping stones across streams than this morning or previous days. It felt slower and harder than this morning but the views were beautiful. Each time I thought – that will be todays highlight photo – 10 minutes later there was a better one.

The terrain varied from wooded and stoney hills to lush river valleys and hillsides of bracken.

It was hotter than expected and we were out of water and very hot and sticky by the end.
Who could have predicted that on a trip to Scotland in September I would be regretting not bringing my swimming costume (bathing suit).

Tonight we are staying in an en-suite room at Beinglass campsite. Which is literally on the trail. We arrived just after the bar had started serving food and had a very nice tomato, mushroom and red pepper pizza and I had half a pint of what the bar tender described as “an ale – not very nice” which I thought was a decent bitter. Not a word he seemed to know – not sure if that is because of youth or changing times. I’ve seen a lot more IPAs and fewer regular bitters on the trip.

Think we will try and go to the nearest pub for dinner even though it’s half a mile away.Once we’ve rested our feet a while….

Stats from Mike’s Garmin are divided in two today
