Day 5: Tyndrum to Glencoe Mountain Resort

Today was the longest hike so far. About 18 miles with the distance off the trail to accommodation at each end and about 2300 ft of elevation ascent. We also had our latest start as we decided to take advantage of the breakfast included in our nights stay. Yet still managed to get to the destination before check in at 3pm.

It drizzled on and off all day. Just enough to get wet and then dry again and repeat. Many times. It was nice after the last couple of days to be cooler. And there were a few rainbows.

The hike was mainly along an old road – one of Telford’s parliamentary roads – commissioned in 1803 and used as a road until 1933. Easy hiking, although all the different shaped and sized stones was hard on the soles of my feet. You can see the path/road in some of the photos.

For some of the hike you could see the main road and/ or train track, but for the rest it was pretty isolated. The only civilisation on the route was a small village where the train station had several adamant signs about there being no public toilets and a hotel in the middle of nowhere – that had a shop that sold tea and coffee, sandwiches and snacks.

Tonight we are playing at being hobbits. Check out our camping pod, or hobbit house, in the photo below. We are at Glencoe Mountain Resort. No pub – but there is a cafe with hot food and drinks and beer.

For a change here are my stats for the day rather than Mike’s. My garmin is a bit less accurate (read cheaper) than his.
